Lion Animal Kingdom Adventure: Cub Scout Helps and Ideas

July 18, 2019 Leave a Comment

The Animal Kingdom adventure introduces Lions to the concepts of service, responsibility, and citizenship. Here are a few ideas to help you with this achievement.

There are some links to helps for this adventure at the bottom of this post, including games and activities. Here are few other things to keep in mind:

  • Police and firefighters come to mind and are usually eager to help Cub Scouts
  • Also consider visiting your local food pantry or another charitable organization. You might be able to do requirement 4 below at the same time.
  • There are lots of simple energy saving ideas:
    • Turn off the water when you brush your teeth
    • Turn off the lights when you are not in the room
    • Remember to close the doors
    • Read a book instead of turning on the TV or video game
    • Do the dishes by hand instead of using the dishwasher
    • Dry your clothes on a clothesline instead of in the dryer

Don’t forget to grab a check off sheet to keep track of your Lions progress.

More ideas and related adventures:

Fake Wounds for First Aid Demonstrations
If your Webelos or Scouts BSA are working on first aid requirements, you can add in some fun by making a fake wound on a "victim" or two.
Red Light Green Light
When working with Cub Scouts, remember KISMIF - Keep It Simple. Make It Fun. Sometimes we come up with elaborite or complicated plans when our young Scouts would really be just as happy with something simple. Red Light Green Light is a great example of this. It is simple and requires no preparation or materials. My Cub Scouts always enjoy these "classic" playground games.
911 Song
This silly song is a favorite with my sons. Yes, it involves crashing into trees, ambulance rides, blood, and the word cops. But it seems to be the type of song kids enjoy singing. Don't ask me why.
Lion Cub Scout Helps and Documents
Lion is the Cub Scout program for girls and boys in Kindergarten.
Fire Drill Time!
Fire drills are encouraged throughout scouting programs, from the Lions to Scouts BSA. Print out a basic plan for conducting a home fire drill.
Elbow Balloon Pass Game
This game is all about cooperation. Talk afterwards about what made it easier to pass the balloon and what made it harder.
