The Announcements Song will add some laughs to the dry business parts of your meetings. Sing “Announcements, announcements, announcements” followed by one of the verses and then do an announcement. Sing it again and then do another announcement.
These are some of the verses I know, but there are lots more. Add yours to the comments section below the post. Include the tune of the verse if you know it.
Announcements Song
Announcements, annoucements, announcements.
(To the tune of A Farmer in the Dell)
A terrible way to die, a terrible way to die,
It’s a terrible thing to be talked to death.
A terrible way to die.
Announcements, annoucements, announcements.
(To the tune of London Bridge Is Falling Down)
Keep announcements short and sweet,
Short and sweet,
Short and sweet.
Keep announcements short and sweet,
Cause they’re boring
Announcements, annoucements, announcements.
(To the tune of Have You Ever Seen a Lassie)
Have you ever heard a windbag,
A windbag, a windbag,
Have you ever heard a windbag.
Well there’s one right now.
Blows this way and that way,
Blows this way and that way,
Have you ever heard a windbag,
Well there’s one right now.
Announcements, annoucements, announcements.
(To the tune of Frère Jacques)
Words of wisdom,
Words of wisdom.
Here they come,
Here they come.
Boring words of wisdom,
Boring words of wisdom.
Dum, dum, dum,
Dum, dum, dum.
Announcements, annoucements, announcements
We sold our cow,
we sold our cow,
we have no need for your bull now
Row Row Row your boat gently down the stream
Ha Ha fooled you, we’re in a submarine
Announcements, annoucements, announcements
I think the “dum dum dum” (which could be misconstrued as “dumb, dumb, dumb”) might be better as “blah, blah, blah…” I know it doesn’t rhyme, but I could totally see the Tigers getting in to it!
At our last meeting, we split into Weblos in one group and then Tiger, Wolf and Bear Scouts in the other. We taught the younger boys the song and cued them to sing it when the Cubmaster said the word “announcements”. It was so funny watching the older boys’ faces when the younger ones broke into song! Priceless!!
My oldest boy is in cub scouting, and i was really upset when i found out that many packs no longer do this where I am from. A few other eagles and myself are trying to bring it back though. I remember my favorites of this from cubs was
-here come Peter Cotton Tail,
hopping down the bunny trail,
Bang!!!
and
– they built the ship titanic,
TO SINK!!!
My son just joined the Cub Scouts as a Bear and I learned from the Scout Master that they don’t sing this at their meetings. He said he believes they do during summer camp but that’s it. All I can remember as a child was singing this at the top of my lungs with the other scouts to try to “get one over on the adults.”
I am going to talk to the Den Mother to see if we can get my son’s Bear Den to sing this and this be what they are known for.
Just seeing this song brings back so many great memories.
