The Little Green Frog Song

April 10, 2011 4 Comments

This is a fun song to do with a Cub Scout pack or den. It is full of boy humor. Make sure you get the parents to sing along also. That makes it really fun for the youth.

I can’t really describe the tune. Hopefully someone in your group will know how it goes. If not, just make up your own tune!

The Little Green Frog Song
Um ah, went the little green frog one day
Um ah, went the little green frog
Um ah, went the little green frog one day
His eyes went um and ah.

Honk honk, went the big red truck one day
Honk honk went the big red truck
Squish squash, went the little green frog that day
Squish squash went the little green frog
His eyes didn’t go um ah anymore
Cause he got eaten by a dog!
Woof Woof!

Actions

When you sing um ah, open and close your hands like eyes opening and shutting.
When you sing honk honk make the universal sign for a truck driver honking his horn.
When you sing squish sqash, put your hands together like you are squashing something.

This is one of our FAVORITES! The boys love to do it… and it never gets old! Our version is a little different…we say:
Va-roomp(not sure how to spell that) went the little green frog one day
Va-roomp went the little green frog
Va-roomp went the little green frog one day (each time we say the firs three lines we jump from side to side like hopping frogs)
And his eyes went blink blink blink (make flashing motion with hands each beside eyes)
Honk Honk went the great big truck one day
KIRSPLAT!!! went the little green frog
and his eyes didn’t go blink blink anymore (motions beside eyes)
cause his eyes got eaten by a frog
Ruff Ruff (arms straight out in front of you making a BIG mouth chomping motion)

This has been a fav since our scout leader did it at a summer camp about 10 years ago, but we do it slightly differently, the chorus is the same but we use different verses
    but we know frogs go
splat (clap hands) on the motorway
    splat on the motorway
    splat on the motorway
they don’t go uh uh um

    frizzzz in the liquidiser

    pop in the microwave

squish when you step on them

    bleurgh when you tickle them

(freeze on the spot) in the freezer

    Bang in the oven
