I am a new Cubmaster. I would like to start awarding the progress toward ranks beads for wolves and bears and also the tiger immediate recognition beads at Pack meetings instead of Den meetings. This is our preference and my husband and I have thought it out and we would really like to do this. Is this unusual – or are there some Packs out there who are already doing this. If anyone has any advice on this it is appreciated. thanks!
Normally the preference would be given out at den meetings, but I have known den leaders who prefer this to be handled by the Cubmaster. Reasons are various. Sometimes it is because they don’t have enough help at the den meetings and it is just too hectic. Or because the Cub Scouts for were not wearing their totems to den meetings and were losing the beads. (Our school asked that they not wear the totems on their shirts at school because they were playing with them and the beads were coming off. )
So while I recommend that these be given out immediately if possible, nobody knows your unit better than you. There will be objections to handing them out at the next pack meeting, but if your reasons are well thought out and in the best interest of your youth, then do it however best meets the needs of your Cub Scouts.
