Setup Instructions
- Before leaving for camp, cook the ground beef thoroughly in a skillet.
- Add taco seasoning and water according to the package instructions. Mix well and let it cool.
- Pack the cooked taco meat into containers and refrigerate or freeze for the trip.
- Shred the lettuce and pack it into containers.
- Gather all ingredients and equipment and ensure they are packed securely for camp.
Recipe Instructions
- Start a charcoal fire if using a Dutch oven or set up a camp stove with a cooking pot.
- Heat the prepared taco meat until it is fully warmed through. Stir occasionally to avoid burning.
- To serve, gently crush a bag of chips while keeping the bag closed.
- Open the bag and add a heaping spoonful of warm taco meat.
- Top with shredded cheese, lettuce, and salsa.
- Eat directly out of the bag using a fork.
Notes and Variations
- You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey, chicken, or vegetarian crumbles.
