Wolf Den Outing Plan – Call of the Wild: Campout

This Wolf den outing covers three of the seven requirements for the Call of the Wild Wolf adventure. The other requirements will be covered in a meeting about outdoor skills and a meeting about safety.

Some of you might not have much outdoor experience. Don’t be intimidated by the idea of going camping. I had never camped at all before I was a Webelos den leader! If you are the novice, the key is to have some support from somebody who is comfortable “in the wild”. In my case, one of the other moms who went with us had a lot of camping experience. So take advantage of somebody in your pack who is knowledgeable or ask your Scouts BSA Troop for some help. Most councils also offer camping experiences for Cub Scouts, so attend your local Cub Scout summer camp to fulfill this requirement.

Activities

Adventure requirement 1: While a Wolf Scout, attend a pack or family campout.

You are fulfilling this one just by going camping.

For requirement 3, they have to look for some animals.

Adventure requirement 3: While on a den or family outing, identify four different types of animals. Explain  how you identified them.

Don’t forget to follow requirement 7 and complete 7c

Adventure requirement 7c. After your campout, list the ways you demonstrated being careful with fire.

Finally, don’t forget to put on a campfire program to fulfill requirement 6.

Adventure requirement 6. On the campout, participate with your family or den in a campfire show. Prepare a skit or song ,based on one of your family’s favorite things to do outside, and then present it at the campfire for everyone else.

Campfire Program

Don’t forget the campfire program. Have the Wolves perform for the group.  (Requirement 6) You can check my songs and skits pages for ideas.  If you’re group is small, you can do this at your campsite campfire. And don’t forget the s’mores! Most Wolves will consider this a must.

Games

Plan some games for some organized fun. See my games page for ideas.

Character Compass

Remember to tie in your activities with the Scout Law.

A Scout is Helpful. Everyone should pitch in when it is time to do work around camp.

A Scout is Brave. Some of your Cub Scouts (and parents) will be out of their comfort zone. Encourage them to be brave and to overcome their fears.
