Den Leader Patch

Welcome New Den Leaders

Around this time of year there are a lot of new Den Leaders wondering to themselves “Exactly what did I just volunteer for?” Welcome!

You might have enthusiastically volunteered for the position. Or maybe you found yourself talked into it because you want to help out and nobody else step forward. With my first den, I actually volunteered to be Assistant Den Leader, which seemed safe enough. But suddenly the Den Leader resigned and I was on the spot.

Whatever your story, I want to welcome you to the world of Scouting. If you haven’t been offered a mentor by your Pack, find one! Hopefully there is an experienced Den Leader there who will take you under her wing and show you the ropes.

If you are not familiar with the program, some things might seem a little confusing at first, so it is important to have somebody you can ask questions. Don’t worry about sounding silly. Any Den Leader who has been around a few years has probably asked plenty of unusual questions himself.

Your Council offers training sessions for adult leaders. Find out when the next training session is and attend. I have attended training for all of the positions I have filled in the Cub Scout Pack, Boy Scout Troop, and Venturing Crew and I have learned valuable information every time.

Hopefully you will find a few things on the website to help. There are helps for Lion,  Bobcat, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos. Feel free to contact me if you are looking for a particular resource. And the Facebook page is a great place to get feedback from other experienced Scouters.

The service you are providing to our children will help develop the “thinkers and movers” of the next generation.  Thank you very much for your generosity!

I too have found myself in a very similar situation. I am lucky in that the other moms, though they are glad THEY are not the den leader, they are willing to help in any way they can. I am also very thankful for this website. I cannot count the number of times I have looked to ScouterMom for guidance and suggestions. Thank you.

Wow, great site! My husband and I were just asked to be den leaders next year, and we’ve been discussing the pros/cons. This site is a HUGE encouragement to me. We’ve decided that if we’re going to be den leaders, we’re going to have to be organized and prepared. Thanks for the ideas and plans on the site!

Thank you so much Scouter Mom, for being a lifesaver to us all!!! You have been a guiding light in the many times overwhelming world of scouts! Some time ago I found a wonderful tool on your site, The “Bear Achievements Check Off Sheet”, but I don’t see it today. It has been such a help in the past, and I was wondering if it is still available to us?
    Thanks for all you do!

Yes, the check off sheets are still on the site. For the Bear sheet, select Bear from the Cub Scout menu at the top of the site. Then select one of the achievements or electives from the list. The link for the appropriate check off sheet will be on the far right side of the page, just a little bit down. There will also be other links related to the achievement or elective there.

This is a great scout information web site. I am a new den leader for Tiger Scouts and am working to keep all information organized. I am having trouble viewing the check off lists and was wondering if there was another link I am missing.

Which check off list are you trying to view?

So happy I found your site! I can not wait to explore. I was given the Tiger position last year very last minute and felt behind the 8 ball all year. Now I’m the Wolf leader and I’m excited to have the summer to prep and plan. Thank you for making this so easy!

Thank you so much for all this info! I am a new leader taking over in mid stream and felt so uninformed. Your check off sheets are amazing and will help tremendously. I’m checking out everything you have on this website. You are a God send. Bless you

Thank you for everything you have taken the time to post. I also volunteered to be the Assistant Den Leader and then found myself on the spot with my Den Leader moved out of state. Your information has made it possible for me to keep my sanity and find my way in the confusing world of Cub Scouts.
