Stories about Kids and Conservation

August 22, 2011 15 Comments

When working on conservation requirements, I like to use stories about youth who are participating in conservation projects. I think it makes it more interesting to the Scouts if they see that young people can make a difference.

You can find a few stories about youth and their conservation projects in an article at Earth911.com. So check them out and see if they would be helpful while working on conservation requirements. Also take a look at these resources suggested by readers in the comments: My Hero Stories: Earthkeepers and Earth Day: Meet 3 Kid Crusaders.

Who knows, one of them might be inspired to start their own conservation project.

Do you have a favorite conservation project which your Scout unit or family has participated in? Add it to the comments below.

http://Www.myhero.com under Stories has a collection titled Earthkeeper Heroes. The reading level is high for 2nd graders but doable with their parents help.

There is an article on this website (MyHero) about Boy Scout Mike Browne and his lead-free fishing weights project. Follow the links on the bottom of the page for some more “Cub Scout friendly” versions of this story. Thought this fit particularly well with the topic. Thanks for both websites ladies!
