CD Fish Craft

January 2, 2021 Leave a Comment

I like the new BSA den meeting plans and pack meeting tips. They really help leaders guide their Cub Scouts through the advancement process. But I do miss some of the fun ideas in the old program helps and the idea of  having fun themes.  So I am going to organize some of the material I have into themes.

This month I will present some ideas related to an aquatics theme for the summer. Some of the posts will focus on safety and procedures, such as the BSA Swim Test. But other posts will just be fun ideas to go along with the them to add a little spark to the program.

So here is a craft to go with the aquatics or fishing theme. You can make all sorts of things out of old CDs, which I like to do because it is a good way to reuse them instead of just throwing them away. This fish craft is pretty easy. Cub Scouts can just make one or , for a more involved project, they can make several and put them together as a mobile.

CD Fish Craft

Materials

  • Two old CDs
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • White card stock or construction paper cut fins, lips, and eyes
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun

Instructions

  1. Paint the silver (unprinted) sides of the CDs to look like the sides of a fish. Use brush strokes to make scales.
  2. Cut the fins, lips, and two eyes (one for each side) from the construction paper. See the printable copy above for a diagram with a general idea of how to cut them.
  3. Glue the fins and lips to the printed (unpainted side of the CD) as shown in the diagram.
  4. Apply more glue and glue the second CD to the first so the printed sides of the CDs and the paper parts are on the inside and the sides you painted are on the outside.
  5. Glue an eye to each side.
