Resources and Answers for the Fun on the Run Adventure

What Is a Jungle Field Day?

A Jungle Field Day is an outdoor activity which is a great way for young Scouts to have fun while learning about the outdoors, physical fitness, and teamwork.

The goal of a Jungle Field Day is to provide a variety of fun activities that allow Lions to learn and practice basic physical skills, such as running, jumping, crawling, balancing, and throwing. Some activities that could be included in a Jungle Field Day are:

  1. Relay races: Set up a relay race course with different challenges like running, jumping over cones, crawling under hurdles, and tossing a ball into a bucket.
  2. Obstacle course: Create an obstacle course with different stations where Lions can practice basic skills such as climbing over a wall, crawling through a tunnel, or balancing on a beam.
  3. Scavenger hunt: Hide items around the field, and have Lions work together to find and collect them.
  4. Water balloon toss: Pair Lions up and have them stand apart and toss water balloons to their partners. They keep moving further away from each other until they are unable to catch the balloon.
  5. Team-building activities: Have the Lions work together in small groups to complete a task such as building a tower with blocks, solving a puzzle, or crossing an imaginary river.

Remember, the main goal is for Lions to have fun while learning and practicing basic physical skills. Make sure to include plenty of breaks for water and snacks, and provide plenty of positive encouragement and feedback to keep the Scouts motivated and engaged.

Animal Match Game: When Does It Sleep?

One of the requirements for the Lion Fun on the Run adventure is “Understand the importance of rest.” A suggested activity for this requirement is to discuss nocturnal and diurnal animals and play a matching game. I have made a set of cards to help you with this.
