Abracadabra Theme for Positive Attitude

January 13, 2012 9 Comments

The Abracadabra theme focuses on magic and positive attitude. BSA has a pack meeting plan for this theme and I have some other ideas to go along with it. Here is how the BSA plan suggests tying together this together

Having a positive attitude means that we think about the good and not the negative things we do or face in our lives. While learning magic tricks and puzzles, it can be frustrating, especially when we don’t get the trick or puzzle figured out right away. That negative “I can’t do it” may come more easily to us than trying again with an “I-think-I-can” positive attitude. That “I think I can” just might quickly turn into “I can!”

Abracadabra Pack Meeting PlanDownload

This meeting plan includes the following – all within a magic theme. See the meeting plan for details.

  • Gathering activities – Card Houses, Balanced Coin, Balanced Glass, Super-Strength Napkin, Disappearing Water, Balancing Sugar Cubes, and Optical Illusions for Kids
  • Opening ceremony – The Magic of America
  • Applauses, cheers, and run-ons – The Magic Word, Alakazam, Abracadabra, Magician’s Bow, Magic Yell, Disappearing Rabbit, Magician Applause, Magic Hand Applause, Handkerchief Cheer, Magic Cheer, Magicians Cheer, and Magic “Tricks” Run Ons
  • Amazing Three-In-One Song
  • Recognition ceremony – The Surprised Magician
  • Closing – Without U
  • Cubmaster Minute

Here are some more ideas to go with this theme:

Magic Words Ceremony
This is a ceremony from an old roundtable handout. It would fit with any meeting where Cub Scouts working on improving their manners or are learning that words matter. Use it as a closing ceremony.
Magic Wands Recipe
If you are using the Abracadabra theme this month, try making some Magic Wands to go with them. This recipe is simple enough that you could use it at a Pack meeting.
Cub Juice Potion Recipe
A bubbling bowl of potion will add fun to any magic themed meeting. If your Cub Scouts have never seen what happens when dry ice is placed in a bowl of punch, they will be amazed. Use this idea with the Abracadabra theme.
Bring Back My Bunny to Me Song
This song is from the old program helps and fits in well with the Abracadabra program theme . Add some actions (shown in italics) and ham it up to get the Cub Scouts involved.
Invisible Ink Demonstration
An invisible ink demonstration will add fun to any Cub Scout meeting. If they haven't seen this before, it will really get their attention. This would fit in with any science themed meeting or a communications themed meeting.
Dark Magic Mind Reading Trick
This magic trick will amaze your Scouts. They might be able to figure it out after a few tries, but that is part of the fun. It is very easy to perform and doesn't require a lot of preparation.

The first one is for Oct 2011 and the Jan 2012 Abracadabra theme is the last one currently available. They are going to continue making them available and I’ll post whenever I see a new one. You can go to scouting.org and search for the pack resources there also.

I truely appreciate this website. I do not know what I would do without it.

My question is: I have read Abracadabra, the pirate’s game and several

other sites but over the words appears the numbers “66”. several times

down the page. Would you please explain why and how the”66″s can be

    erased. The numbers covered instructions.

    Thank you………..Debbie

Ok, so the electric is fun, but can it clean. Remote Control 1pcs.

Tiny size makes it best use as a hidden cam, spy cam, etc.
