Wolf Den Meeting Plan for Achievement 12 – Making Choices

Wolf Achievement 12 – Making Choices is about making good decisions. This achievement presents a series of scenarios to the Cub Scouts and they must decide what they would do if they found themselves in that situation.

There are a couple of different ways to do this achievement. You can introduce the scenerios separately throughout the year, doing  one at each den meeting. Or you can make it into one den meeting. When I did it with my dens, we did it all at one meeting.

I found that the best way to make this fun was to turn it into a role play game.  We started out with the Character Connection, and then we started going through the scenarios. We went through more than four. They really enjoyed doing them. And with a couple of the scenarios there was some lively discussion over what they should do.

Den Meeting Plan

Your will need to gather these materials beforehand:

  • A US flag. If you have a Den or Pack flag, bring that also.
  • Pencils and printed crossword puzzles for the gathering activity
  • Any props you want to let them use for the role playing. Props will make this much more fun for them.
  • Any materials you need for the game

Gathering Activity - 15 minutes before the start of the meeting

Let them work on a Cub Scout Core Values crossword puzzle.

Prep one Wolf to lead the opening flag ceremony. See Wolf Requirement 2b for some examples.

Opening Ceremony

Have the Wolf who prepared lead the opening flag ceremony (fulfill Requirement 2b for the scout leading the ceremony) – This will take about 5 minutes to get them together, do the ceremony, and then give a brief overview of the meeting.

Do the Character Connection for Courage. (Allow 5 to 10 minutes, depending how chatty your group is.)

Role play at least four of the scenarios. You should be able to do at least four and still have time for a game at the end of the meeting. (Allow about 30 minutes)

Play an active game. See my games page for ideas. (Play for about 10 minutes)

Recognition and Announcements

Hand out recognitions and make announcements for upcoming pack and den events. Do a closing prayer or just end with the Cub Scout Law or Promise. (Allow about 5 minutes – more if you have a lot of recognitions and announcements to take care of. )
