Tiger Den Meeting Plan – Bobcat Badge

When a new Tiger den is formed, the first advancement step is for them to earn their Bobcat badge. This den meeting focuses on the requirements for Bobcat. It also throws in plenty of fun. Since this will be their first Cub Scout meeting, don’t make it all work, work, work.

Also, get off to a good start by helping the adult partners understand that they are active participants. Don’t let them just stand off to the side observing. Engage them in the activities. Sometimes you even have to take the direct approach and say “I think Bobby really needs your help with this activity.”

Gathering Activity – Make  Paper Bag Puppets – Fulfills Tiger Elective 21 – The Show Must Go On (Remember – the Tigers and their adult partners should work on this together!)

Opening Ceremony – Say the Pledge of Allegiance


Welcome the Tigers and their adult partners and give them a brief orientation to the Tiger program.

Do the Honesty Character Connection – Bobcat Requirement 1

Play the Show Me the Truth game

Introduce the other Bobcat requirements:

  • Cub Scout promise
  • Law of the Pack
  • What Webelos means
  • Cub Scout sign
  • Cub Scout handshake
  • Cub Scout motto
  • Cub Scout salute

A large poster or dry erase board might be helpful for this.

Play the Bobcat Dice Roll game

A couple of the Tiger electives fit in well with Bobcat requirement 8. Do Tiger Elective 26 – Phone Manners and Tiger Elective 27 – Emergency.

If time and space permits, let the Tigers spend a few minutes playing an active game, like tag.

Recognition and Announcements

Remind the adult partners that parents need to complete requirement 8 for the Bobcat badge with the Tigers. Parents need to do the youth protection exercises at the beginning of the book with their Tigers. They should report back to you when they have completed the requirement.

Closing – Say a simple prayer of thanksgiving

    Hi I am a new tiger cub den leader. We will be goi g into our third week meeting. We have 17 boys in this den so. And I feel like I really dropped the ball and let them down first two. Seemed pretty chaotic, and I spent waaay too much time getting parents info,talk I g about what we would be doh g,did go over things for bobcat badge but in a but she’ll. This next week I want to just pick up the ole bootstraps and start from here . I have done lots and lots of research and know now how I need to run our meetings. My question. For you, new best friend, what is the best way to go about catching up and Making up for those first two weeks . Without the sense of rush I g or cramming . I do know I would like to make a ceremony (small den) and a. Big deal about the bibcat badge . Also realizing hey will be

      I say that you don’t need to be too concerned about making up lost time. You have plenty of time to complete the requirements for Bobcat and Tiger in one school year, especially if you are meeting weekly. There are only 5 achievements required for Tiger in the current program. After that, you are just working on electives for enrichment. Don’t feel like you need to do all of the electives.

      17 is a lot of boys in one den though. Ideally this would be two dens. If you don’t have enough leadership for that, then maybe a couple of parents could help you enough for you to break the group into 2 or 3 subgroups for activities.

    I agree with Scouter Mom – 17 is a lot of boys to have in just one den. Usually, there are about 6-8 boys in a den. You said that this is the Tiger Cub program, and a parent/adult partner has to be with each Tiger Cub at every meeting/event anyway, what about breaking your den up into 2 or 3 smaller dens? At a minimum, you could get a couple of assistant den leaders to help you break the den up into smaller, more manageable subgroups. Just a suggestion.
