BSA Wolf Den Meeting Plan 2: Your Flag and Feats of Skill  BSA provides den meeting plans for den leader on the Scouting.org website. Today, I am going to go through the second Wolf plan. If you don't already have the BSA den meeting plans, download BSA Wolf Den Meeting Plan 2 to follow along with this article.

 

Capture the Flag  Capture the Flag is a great game for a large group. Our Boy Scout troop plays it often as an interpatrol activity during meetings. Cub Scouts can play it also. We had a joint Pack/Troop flag retirement ceremony at a local park in the spring. When the ceremony was over, the Boy Scouts organized a game of capture the flag, putting some Cub Scouts on each team. They used most of the park as their play area. It was legendary. :-)

 

Kick the Can  Kick the can is a classic game which combines tag and hide and go seek. This is a great wide area game for a large group. Use it as an activity at a pack campout or to add some physical activity to a pack meeting.

 

Classic Outdoor Games  For this month's theme, I am focusing on classic outdoor games. These are games which would have been played by the Scout's parents or even grandparents. There are a few ideas listed on the right, and more will gradually be shown on the Classic Outdoor Games Theme page.

 

How to Fold the US Flag  The US flag is the symbol of our country and every Scout should know how to handle it. One thing I emphasize when working with Scouts on flag etiquette is that the most important thing is respect. Scouts are going to make mistakes from time to time, but they should always do their best to be respectful.

 

American eagle with flagIdeas for July Pack Meeting – Courage  The core value for Cub Scouts for the month of July is Courage. According to the program helps courage is being brave and doing what is right regardless of our fears, the difficulties, or the consequences.

 

CD Fish Craft  Instructions for a fish shaped craft made from old CDs. Make one or make several and put them together as a mobile.

 

BSA Wolf Den Meeting 1 - Bobcat and Your Flag  BSA provides den meeting plans for den leader on the Scouting.org website. Today, I am going to go through the first Wolf plan. This plan covers Bobcat and part of Wolf Achievement 2 - Your Flag. If you don't have any new Cub Scouts in your den, then nobody needs to earn Bobcat, but it doesn't hurt to review the material anyway.

 

Red Light Green Light  When working with Cub Scouts, remember KISMIF - Keep It Simple. Make It Fun. Sometimes we come up with elaborite or complicated plans when our young Scouts would really be just as happy with something simple. Red Light Green Light is a great example of this. It is simple and requires no preparation or materials. My Cub Scouts always enjoy these "classic" playground games.

 

Native American Prayer  Native American lore is an important part of the Boy Scout and Cub Scout programs. This prayer is attributed to Chief Sealth (for whom Seattle is named).

 

Wolf Den Meeting Plan for Achievement 12 - Making Choices  I found that the best way to make this fun was to turn it into a role play game. We started out with the Character Connection, and then we started going through the scenarios. We went through more than four. They really enjoyed doing them. And with a couple of the scenarios there was some lively discussion over what they should do.

 

Phone Etiquette  Phone etiquette does not come naturally to most kids. It needs to be taught. Here are some very basic rules for talking on the phone. These could be used with Tiger Elective 26 - Phone Manners or Wolf Achievement 4 - Know Your Home and Community. It will also help Cub Scouts working on the Good Manners Pin.

 

Wolf Achievement 10 - Family Fun  For most Cub Scouts, this will be an easy achievement to do at home with their families. But what if you are the den leader and you have one of those families in your den which never seems to be able to complete the requirements at home?

 

Ideas for May Pack Meeting - Health and Fitness  The core value for Cub Scouts for the month of May is Health and Fitness. According to the program helps health and fitness is: Being personally committed to keeping our minds and bodies cleanand fit.Cub Scouts will learn that it is important and easy to eat a healthy diet and how a fitnessprogram can be part of their daily routine.

 

Earth Treats Recipe  In honor of Earth Day, here is an Earth themed snack. Basically these are rice krispie treats shaped like the earth. You can make small "earths" or larger ones, but it seems to set better if you don't make them too big.

 

Emergency Preparedness BSA - Cub Scout Requirements  This award is all about emergency preparedness. Today I am sharing the Cub Scout requirements. This might make a nice theme for a pack event. There are different requirements for Boy Scouts, Venturers, and Scouters.

Cub Scout Trading Cards  With baseball season right around the corner, let your Cub Scouts make their own trading cards with "Cub Scout stats". This Cub Scout craft works great with any sports themed den or pack meeting.

 

Scout Sunday and Scout Sabbath  Scout Sunday and Scout Sabbath are rapidly approaching. Scout Sunday is always the Sunday preceding February 8, or February 8 if it is a Sunday. The Saturday following Scout Sunday is Scout Sabbath.

 

Addams Family Grace (Song)   This favorite Cub Scout grace is a song. The tune is the theme of the Addams Family show. (Hence the name.)

 

Printable Menu Planner for Wolf Requirement 8b  This worksheet is just a simple grid with a row for each meals. The basic food groups make each column. This makes it easy for the Wolves to see if they are really including items from three different food groups in their meals.

 

Wolf Den Meeting Plan for Achievement 4 - Know Your Home and Community  Wolf Achievement 4 - Know Your Home and Community - helps Cub Scouts learn how to take care of themselves and be safe. This den meeting plan covers requirements a, b, c, d, and e.

 

Pet Care Belt LoopPet Care Belt Loop for Cub Scouts  If you have a pet, have your Cub Scout check out the Pet Care Belt Loop from the Cub Scout Academics and Sports program. He will have to take care of the pet for two weeks (a positive from any parent's point of view) and learn about his pet. Then all he has to do is make a poster about his pet and show it off.

 

The Twelve Days of Camping Song  Heres another silly song for you. This works well at Christmas (because of the tune) or at camp (because of the theme).

 

My Favorite Knot Book  This book was recommended a few years ago when I went to Cub Scout BALOO training. I am not a "knot person". I can watch someone do a knot and repeat it, but an hour later it is forgotten.

 

Cub Scout World Conservation Award  This award is available to Wolves, Bears, and Webelos. The purpose of the award is to help Cub Scouts think about how we are all interdependent on our environment. The requirements are differnent depending which year the Cub Scout is in.

 

Wolf Den Meeting Plan for Achievement 11 - Duty to God  Don't be afraid to talk about faith with your Cub Scouts. Even if your group represents very diverse faiths, they should be able to learn to talk about faith respectfully with each other.

 

Forest HikeOutdoor Essentials for Cub Scouts  Even as winter approaches and it gets to cold for the Cub Scouts to get out tent camping, we can still get them outdoors on a day hike. Make sure your Cub Scouts know the 10 Outdoor Essentials.

 

HammerTic Tac Toe Game Project  I thought this would make a good Craftsman project for my Webelos. We'll probably try this in December. They could make these and then give them to someone as a Christmas present.

 

Wolf Den Meeting Plan for Achievement 2 - Your Flag  Wolf Achievement 2 - Your Flag - helps instill one of the three Aims of Scouting in our young Scouts - citizenship. By learning about how to properly display the US flag, they learn about respect.

 

Make a Difference to One  This can be used as a Cubmaster/Scoutmaster/Advisor Minute or it can be used with adults to encourage more participation in the Committee.

 

Gourd Birdhouse  Use dried gourds to make a birdhouse. If you didn't grow any yourself, you can probably find some in your area at a farmer's market or even a craft shop.

 

Johnny Appleseed Grace (Song)  Duty to God is an important part of Scouting, so don't forget to say grace at Scouting events. This is a non-denominational grace which would be appropriate at any meal.

 

Soil Sample Cupcakes Recipe  Scouts always enjoy playing with their food! This would make a nice snack for any den meeting based on one of the ecology lessons.

 

Tips for Wolf Achievement 1 - Feats of Skill  There are a couple of different ways to work on Wolf Achievement 1 - Feats of Skill - with your den. One way is to do all of the requirements in one meeting. Another is to spread them out between different meetings.
