5F – Family Activity: Go outside and watch the weather and Character Connection: Faith
5D – Den Activity: With a crayon or colored pencil and a piece of paper, make a leaf rubbing.
5G – Go See It Activity: Take a hike with your den.

All Tiger Cub activities are to be done with an adult partner. The adult partner can be a parent, aunt, uncle, grandparent, etc. I’ve even had a college aged sibling do activities with Tiger Cubs.
If you are out with a goal oriented group and you want them to take some time to explore, consider adding one or more additional hiking activities.

This is a board game I came across recently on the NASA Space Place website. It is going to take a little time for you to print and prepare the materials, but I think this would be a hit at any weather themed scout meeting.
Even as winter approaches and it gets to cold for the Cub Scouts to get out tent camping, we can still get them outdoors on a day hike. Make sure your Cub Scouts know the 10 Outdoor Essentials.
If your Cub Scouts attended day camp or resident camp over the summer, you might want to encourage them to work on their Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award.
These guidelines are appropriate for a front country adventure in an area like a park. That is the only type of hiking which is appropriate for Cub Scouts. If you are going on a back country hike, then you need to consider some other safety rules, like bringing a fire source and knife.
Hiking is one of the new additions to the Cub Scout Academics and Sports Program. I really like this added incentive to get our Cub Scouts outdoors.
