Cub Scout Archives: Abracadabra Theme
Here is what the old program helps said about this theme: “Cub Scouts love to amaze and be amazed! Boys discover secrets of the magician’s art this month as they demonstrate magical illusions and learn new tricks with cards, coins, and other everyday objects. The Cub Scout Magic Book is a great resource for age-appropriate tricks and puzzles. Visit a magic shop or have a magician come to your den or pack meeting to teach the boys a few tricks of the trade. Prepare to watch in wonder at the pack meeting as your Cub Scouts entertain their audience with skits, stunts, and sparklers that they have practiced at den meetings. The Cubmaster uses the magic of ceremonies to pull awards from a top hat at the mystifying pack meeting magic show.”
An invisible ink demonstration will add fun to any Cub Scout meeting. If they haven’t seen this before, it will really get their attention. This would fit in with any science themed meeting or a communications themed meeting.
This song is from the old program helps and fits in well with the Abracadabra program theme . Add some actions (shown in italics) and ham it up to get the Cub Scouts involved.
A bubbling bowl of potion will add fun to any magic themed meeting. If your Cub Scouts have never seen what happens when dry ice is placed in a bowl of punch, they will be amazed. Use this idea with the Abracadabra theme.
A magic trick will add some fun to your meeting. For this simple trick you will need an accomplice who is capable of not telling everyone he is helping you.
This is a ceremony from an old roundtable handout. It would fit with the Abracadabra program theme for Cub Scouts or for Cub Scouts working on the Good Manners Belt Loop and Pin. Use it as a closing ceremony.
