When a new Scout joins a troop, the first thing he must do is meet the joining requirements listed for the Scout badge.
Although Scout is often referred to as the “joining rank” for Boy Scouts, Scout is not really considered a rank by BSA. Upon completion of the requirements, the new Scout will receive a Scout badge which resembles the rank badges.
