Ideas for March Pack Meeting – Compassion

The core value for Cub Scouts for the month of March is compassion. The program helps give this explanation of compassion:

Being kind and considerate, and showing concern for the well-being of others.

Compassion involves thinking about others. What is it like to walk in another person’s shoes? What does it feel like to be left out?  How can I give a hand to a friend who needs help? Here are a few ideas:

I was wondering if anyone has ever done a Scouting For Food themed Pack Meeting? I am surprised SFF is not the folcus of one of the March choices in the BSA March Pack Meeting Resources. Our main goal for the March pack meeting is to get the scouts and families excited about SFF. And our secondary goal is we also want to have a summer day camp info segment with the parents about the cost. And we will have at least 2 rank badges to award. All of the March resources are not really helpful. We are probably going to have to start from scratch so any ideas would be appreciated.

Our Pack (Parkman Pack 4076) does SFF on May 5th as the weather here (Northeast Ohio) warms up. We are very simple but to the point. We take a wagon to the sub-division closest to the Charter Church and knock on doors asking for donations for our church pantry. Most are familiar with the church and give what they can. I would like to have bags with a Scout logo on it and drop them off to the families to fill and pick up later but have not been able to locate the bags. Are there such things? Anyway, this is how we do it. Simple is always a good thing.
