In a couple of weeks, our crew is going to Fall Fun Rally. This annual event, which started 41 years ago in the Greater St. Louis Area Council, claims to be the largest annual gathering of Venturers and Explorers. Although this is a Venturing/Exploring event, older Boy Scouts can attend also.
The weekend features games like dodgeball, badminton, whiffle ball, sand volleyball, ninja, and capture the flag. The climbing tower is open and there are tours of Mud Cave. If you like shooting sports you can try your hand at archery, rifles, shotguns, or pistols. At the Mountain Man village you can shop for treats, handcrafted items, and homemade soda by the bottle, larger bottle, or jug. Challenge yourself at crate staking, log rolling, giant jenga, or slacklining. You can learn how to fence or watch a bomb squad demonstration. The Sea Scouts will have some RC boats to play with. There is even a lottery to go horseback riding. And you can talk to other Venturers and find out what their crews do.
This year’s Fall Fun Rally weekend celebrates the 250th anniversary of the founding of the city of St. Louis. It also has a sub-theme of Dr. Who. Us Whovians are super excited about this! A couple of the girls from our crew are also big Dr. Who fans and are looking forward to a couple of the special activities based on that theme, including a game called “Silence Will Fall” where they have to find pictures of the creatures known as “The Silence” all around camp. If you are Whovian, you will get it.
So if you live in the Midwest and you can’t make it to Fall Fun Rally this year, put it on the schedule for next year. It is a great event for Venturers and older Boy Scouts.
