BSA provides Bear den meeting ideas for den leaders on the Scouting.org website. These Cub Scout Bear den meeting plans are step by step guides to carrying out a den meeting. In addition to the basic den meeting plans, there are supplemental plans which can be used if you have additional meetings left. Today we will look at a den meeting plan in which Bear Cub Scouts take a field trip to see a building model. It covers one of the requirements for Bear Achievement 21 – Build a Model.
If you don’t already have the BSA den meeting plans, download BSA Bear Den Meeting Supplemental Plan O to follow along with this article.
Cub Scout Bear Den Meeting Plans: Build a Model
Preparation and Before the Meeting
Most of the preparation for this meeting is finding a location to visit which has a building model on display. If you have a contact who is an architect or in the construction industry, they might be able to help you. You will also need to arrange for drivers, permission slips, etc.
Check out my gathering activities page for ideas. Or make some thank you notes for the location you will be visiting.
Keep business short and sweet.
Just by going to see the model, you fulfill Bear Achievement 21e
Go and see a model of a shopping center or new building that is on display somewhere.
You will need other activities to fill in. If there are opportunities for a tour at the location you are visiting, do that. Otherwise the idea to have some Legos and make your own building models is an excellent one. Maybe give them a few design specifications – how tall, windows, doors, etc. – and see what they can come up with.
After the meeting
The Bears should thank their hosts and the parents who drove them to the location. Now is the time to ask some parents to help you with the next meeting.
