BSA provides Wolf den meeting plans for Cub Scout den leaders. Today’s plan is a supplemental den meeting plan in which Wolf Cub Scouts learn about emergency preparedness. This plan covers part of Wolf Elective 16 – Family Alert.
If you don’t already have the BSA den meeting plans, download BSA Supplemental Wolf Den Meeting Plan M to follow along with this article.
Wolf Den Meeting Plans – Family Alert
Preparation and Before the Meeting
You will need to gather some supplies for this meeting.
Gathering, Opening, and Business
See my Gathering Activities page for ideas for the gathering time.
Start with Wolf Elective 16a
Talk with your family about what you will do in an emergency.
This just involves a discussion. Follow the suggestions in the Wolf handbook.
Next move on to Elective 16b
In case of a bad storm or flood, know where you can get safe food and water in your home. Tell how to purify water. Show one way. Know where and how to shut off water, electricity, gas, or oil.
Do the water purification demonstration and talk about where in their homes they might be able to shut off water etc.
Finally do Elective 16c
Make a list of your first-aid supplies, or make a first-aid kit. Know where the first-aid things are kept.
Go through a first aid kit and discuss the different items. This would be a good time to play Kim’s Game with a first aid kit. Playing the game will help them remember what was in the kit.
Do a closing flag ceremony.
After the Meeting
Have the Cub Scouts help you clean up the area. And don’t forget to ask for some parents to help out at the next meeting.
