BSA provides Webelos den meeting plans for Cub Scout den leaders on the Scouting.org website. The twelfth Webelos den meeting plan completes the Engineer Activity Badge which was stared in the previous meeting.
This meeting is a field trip to a construction site. If you cannot arrange this, see my Engineer Activity Badge for other ideas for how to complete this badge.
If you don’t already have the BSA Webelos den meeting plans, download BSA Webelos Den Meeting Plan 12 to follow along with this article.
BSA Webelos Den Meeting Plans: # 12 – Engineer Activity Badge
Preparation and Before the Meeting
Most of your preparations for this meeting will involve arranging to visit the construction site, along with logistical details like drivers and permission slips. Talk to the engineer or architect who will be showing you around the site about the requirements you want to complete during this visit so he or she can be prepared.
Gathering activities are more challenging when you are taking a field trip. In this situation, I like to do printable puzzles which don’t take much space and can be packed up quickly. Check my gathering activities page for some ideas.
If a flag is available at your field trip location, you can do a simple indoor flag ceremony. Otherwise say the Boy Scout Law.
Keep business to a minimum
Your host should show you around the construction site. While he or she is doing this, complete requirements 1, 3, and 4:
1. Talk to an engineer, surveyor, or architect in your area about the different occupations in engineering. Create a list that tells what they do.
3. Visit a construction job. Look at a set of plans used to build the facility or product. Tell your Webelos den leader about these. (Get permission before you visit.)
4. Visit a civil engineer or surveyor to learn how to measure the length of a property line. Explain how property lines are determined.
Saying the Boy Scout Oath is a good option for a closing when you are on a field trip.
After the Meeting
This is a good time to line up some parents to help you at the next meeting.
